The State of Wyoming has a budget surplus that it sends to Wall Street. Yet, Albany County and the City of Laramie struggle to make ends meet; people in our community cannot afford health care or adequate housing; and we are increasingly reliant on fickle energy production.
The time to prepare for the next ‘bust’ is during this boom and I have the experience to make this happen:
- I know big business. Much of our energy resources are controlled by multinational companies like the ones I have audited or advised.
- I understand small business. I advise local Wyoming businesses and has worked with companies associated with the Wyoming Technology Business Center. I have founded, managed, and sold small businesses.
- I know how industries operate that are essential to Wyoming’s economic health. I have audited, advised, or managed companies in a wide-range of industries including mining, oil and gas, forestry, healthcare, retail and education.
- I know the uses and limits of government. I taught for many years as a member of the political science faculty of the University of Wyoming.
- I understand complex problems such as how to balance development, environment, and community. I have advised the government on environment, energy, and national security and has published three books on enviroment and development.
With this experience I shall work to:
- Invest in Wyoming to diversify our industry and create good jobs
- Educate our children for good jobs in Wyoming
- Invest to increase the value of our natural resources
- Get market price for the extraction of natural resources
- Protect our wildlife and wild places
- Conserve Wyoming’s water and increase storage
- Improve healthcare for the working poor and uninsured
- Increase long-term state support for Albany County and Laramie.
